Choice of two SSD's.

Greetings,

After many years I've decided it's time to buy an SSD, alongside a new hard drive, replacing my current WD Blue 500GB that's 8 years old (surprisingly, it still works perfectly after so many years!). I have no doubts to which hard drive I should purchase, though I have a choice of I'd say two SSDs - Kingston A400 and Kingston UV500, both 120GB.

I don't really plan to use the SSD for anything else other than to install Windows and perhaps a few other applications on it, hence why opted for something relatively cheap that will suit my needs.

I would just like to know, out of those two, which one is... "better"? Based on your vast knowledge, which one do people seem to be happier with/to experience less issues with, to put it that way. They're both around the same price, but I wouldn't want to pay anything higher.

120GB SSDs are too small. With 500GB SSDs under $75 and 250GB SSDs around $50. There is no reason to endure the hassle of trying to keep a 120GB SSD from filling up. Just not worth it.

I guess I'm either blind or I have tunnel vision, but yeah you're correct.

I would still have a choice of a few 240GB SSD's - Adata SU650, Transcend SSD220S, the same two Kingstons, A400 and UV500, and Apacer AS350. Based on your preference and knowledge, which one would you recommend?

The Adata has gotten good reviews. My other choice would be a Crucial MX500.

The Crucial MX500 250GB or 500GB. Faster than any of those, and not too expensive.

Obviously the NVME and PCIe drives take the top slots, but see the rankings (967 SSDs in all):

Crucial MX500 500GB - 139th (11th of 279 in the 2.5" rankings)
Crucial MX500 250GB - 148th

The highest and lowest scoring of your list:

Apacer AS350 240GB - 455th
Kingston A400 120GB - 665th

To put things in perspective, the MX500 500GB is about 30% faster at reads than the Kingston, and more than twice as fast with writes. Part of this is that 500GB SSDs tend to be faster than 250GB ones, which are faster than 120GB ones.

Intel has a 512 on sale for ~$50. That would be my choice right now.

My Crucial MX drives have been phenomenal.

I wish I had such good SSDs for as cheap as you guys are telling me, but I live in a country where even Amazon will not ship, so I'm stuck with what I have.
