Question Choices.... which one ?

Recently my R9 280X died leaving me to run off an old 1GB card ..... as much as I'd love to go buy some flash new card, funds are tight so that 2080RTX is on hold

Current system specs are :

Board Intel DH77KC
Chipset Ivy Bridge
Graphic Interface PCI-e x16
RAM 16GB DDR3 Dual Channel (2x 8) G.Skill
CPU Intel Core i5 3570K 1155LGA - not overclocked
PSU Corsair VS550 (2x 8 pin PCI-e connectors)

I've been offered good (?) deals (all around same price) on the following cards :

1. RX580 8GB (Was used for mining - seller has 10 of them)
2. GTX960 4GB
3. 1060 3GB

I honestly don't know which would be best for my system.

Max res would be 1920x1080

Games : CSGO, Overwatch, Unturned, Sims 3, Subnautica, Pulsar and a variety of other ones but nothing overly "flash" or new

So...option 1 or 2 or 3 ?

RX would be future proofed spec wise for a bit but because of mining use, lifespan could be diminished/questionable
GTX good solid card but getting on in age
1060 Fairly new tech etc but 3GB could hamper future use if I upgrade CPU etc.

1060 3GB , ONLY BECAUSE mining cards are usually abused.

What kind of pricing are we talking about for these cards and what country are you located in? At least in the US, new RX 580s and 570s are available for rather low prices right now, and it's even possible to find them bundled with download codes for a couple new and upcoming game releases. Plus, you get a proper warranty that should cover it for two or three years.

Performance-wise the RX 580 would be the best option, which on average performs similar to a 1060 6GB. The 1060 3GB, however, has 10% of it's cores disabled, which will make it at least 10% slower. Its limited VRAM is already starting to hurt performance more than that in some of the latest, most demanding games though, and that's only likely to get worse in the future. The 960 probably wouldn't be worth considering, as it should generally be slower than your 280X. An RX 570 performs similar to a GTX 1060 3GB, only with more VRAM that should help it stay relevant longer.

I'm in New Zealand. Pricing is around $250ish - these are all 2nd hand.

Hmm took look at new card pricing, and for a few dollars more, can get a 1050Ti 4GB - wondering if thats prob better move for me, at least its brand new with warranty. But would I notice the performance hit on some games... in saying that though, I'm not a anal game player, long as the game looks decent and runs smooth, I don't mind losing some textures and fancy features here and there.

Damn I hate being in this situation, lots of choice and little money LOL........

Having a look at pricing in New Zealand, it appears as though you could get an Asus RX 570 4GB on sale for not much more than $250 NZD...

I also noticed another RX 570 from Asus that's not listed at PCPartPicker at one of those sites for slightly less still and apparently free shipping (though being unfamiliar with NZ stores, I have no idea how reputable they might be)...

Performance-wise, an RX 570 should be a decent amount faster than a 1050 Ti, and faster than your 280X was as well. Again, it should perform relatively similar to a GTX 1060 3GB, though with a little more VRAM, and just around 10-15% behind an RX 580 or GTX 1060 6GB. On average, an RX 570 should be in the vicinity of 45% faster than a 1050 Ti at 1080p resolution, and considering they are currently priced similar, it should be a much better value for anyone who doesn't have a low-capacity PSU...

Cheers all - I've accepted a good deal on a 2nd hand RX580 4GB, so will hopefully have that in hand in a couple of days and it'll do me until I catch up on some other bills

Id say the 1060 if price is right otherwise the 960 avoid the rx580's especially if used for mining
