At the moment I'm only getting the option to delay the installation by two days, I thought we had up to year to install. How can I change this?

Solution
You can download the install tool from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

You can perform a direct upgrade which will work pretty much the same as the time delayed automatic install. The direct upgrade will automatically chose the correct flavor of Windows 10 to match your previous Windows.

Or you can make media, DVD/Thumbdrive. If you use the create media you need to chose the version of Windows 10 to the previous version of Windows you are running. If you start the upgrade from the media while your are within your previous Windows OS and the version matches, home or pro, it will perform the upgrade without prompting you for a key. If your version does not match or your are booting with the...
you can uninstall the KB3035583 update and this will remove the pester notification.
1s you remove it clean the registry and reboot. go back to windows updates and KB3035583 should show up again this time instead of selecting it to install choose hide update. dont worry if you have already chosen to upgrade the option will still be there when you decide to install the update again and use it.

yes thats true. but you will need a key to do that.

if you want the free upgrade you have to use the upgrade option first.
you current key will allow activation of the new o.s and only then you can use the install media to clean install if you wish and you wont need a new key.

but try and clean insatll without choosing the upgrade first will result if a fail to activate as a clean insatll will remove your existing key so win 10 wont be able to use it to activate itself.
i have heard that you can phone m.s for the next little while and they may issue you a key if you explain to them that you made a mistake when installing.
but it will be hit and miss as to whether they do it or ask you to reinstall your old o.s first and upgrade from inside that to get a valid activation.

So the upgrade just replaces the current operating system and leaves programs/files intact? Is a clean install going to be better? They must of known a lot of people would prefer a clean install and made it an easier option..

it gives you a couple of options on the upgrade including a clean install. i know that sounds odd but if you do it this way you still get an activation.
as long as your choosing the upgrade option from inside a valid installed o.s your good to go.

when i did min i chose to leave apps and settings intact but this took 5+ hours to complete.
if you choose upgrade and then choose not to keep apps and settings it should take about an hour depending on hardware.

You will be able to install the free upgrade like this up to July 29th, 2016. After that date you will need to pay for the upgrade. Or you can just buy the full version now.
