Choosing a 24" monitor

Hey everyone, was wondering if I could get some advice.

I currently use an HP w2007v monitor and quite like it, but I am wondering if it would be worth upgrading to something a bit bigger. Since I am of the opinion that I will most likely be using the new monitor every day for the forseeable future (till it breaks), I would prefer to get something good! Im currently looking at the Dell Ultrasharp U2410, and am wondering how its viewed here? the 10 designation would lead me to believe that its a couple years old, so the U2412M should replace it, but its half the price so is the 2410 still the current leading version? The main uses would be gaming, movies, photo editing, and CAD work (in that order), so Id quite like good colour as well as good response time. Obviously I would prefer to pay less, but If the 2410 is worth it I will happily pay the extra.

Second question is what would the Dell U2410's direct compeditors be? Since Ive had a good experience with the HP, Id be curious to know what the HP equivelant of the Dell is, as well as any opinions 😀. Only rule is it has to be some kind of IPS panel, and 24" 😛

Thanks in advance! 😀

The u2412hm(e-ips) is a budget/gamer oriented panel. It has faster response time and lower input lag, but it's 6-bit with a-frc (dithering).

The u2410(h-ips) has a decent game mode that lowers the input lag. So use that when you want to game.

The hp equivalents are the zr24w and zr2440w but they use e-ips panels (which are the 6-bit ones)

Hp used to make the zr2475 which was an H-IPS(8-bit) panel and just about equal to the u2410, but they seem to have stopped making it.

Asus makes the PA246Q which is P-IPS(10-bit), which might be really good, but it's their first high quality panel, and early reports were that their support wasn't any better on it than with their budget displays (i.e. they weren't replacing panels with dead pixels)

Imho, the u2410 is the only current IPS panel without any downsides.

Hey bud, sorry for the delayed reply, had a bit of a family emergency. Thanks very much for your help! Im coming to the same conclusion, think Ill probably go with the u2410 when I have the money =). thanks again!!

The u2412 is good to. But it has two downsides:

1) It's 6 bit a-frc, which means dithering, this isn't generally an issue unless you are doing digital painting.

2) It uses an LED backlight. Normally this is a plus, but it has a smaller 82% gamut compared to the u2410's 110% gamut produced by a very good ccfl. If you want colors to pop, the u2410 is the way to go.

On the plus sides(for the u2412hm):

1) It's cheaper

2) It got a faster response time, and lower input lag. (Not that the u2410 is bad, once it's in game mode.)

If you've only ever owned TN monitors, I might suggest the u2412hm, because it's a really large step up, but the u2410 is better.
