I'm trying to get a prebuilt PC and I came across tons of different brands. The PC that fitted my budget came with a PNY RTX 3060 UPRISING Dual Fan 12GB, I do not know how does this fare with the other brands. Can anyone advise?

Solution

Good read here. Sounds like at 1080p 60hz you may have some, but if you up resolution or go higher refresh rate then you may not need to worry as much.

According to one video I saw the 3600 held back a 3090 a bit at 1080p, but there again switch to 1440p and you may not notice as much. And when it did hold some titles back they usually still had pretty decent FPS. But obviously with say a 5600x or 5900x you wouldn’t have to worry as much.

PNY is decent and has been around. Not sure about the warranty on that particular card, but it should be fine as they have been making components like graphics cards, ssd drives and ram for a while.
Hi, can you advice if this build is decent
AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600
GIGABYTE B550M DS3H
AFTERSHOCK M-40 Frost Cooling
16GB KLEVV BOLT XR 3600mhz DDR4
PNY RTX 3060 UPRISING Dual Fan 12GB
512GB Lexar NM620 SSD R: 3300 W 2400FSP Hydro Pro 800W 80+ Bronze PSU
RAPID High Airflow Mesh Chassis

I’ve got a ryzen 5 3600. Not the fastest now but still good. Just make sure that the board says it supports that cpu out of the box, though it should.

What make/model is the power supply? Otherwise seems fine to me. You may want to add a hard drive or second ssd later for extra storage.

If you talking about getting every single frame out of a card a 3600 will definitely leave some frames on the table. Not that it is necessarily bottlenecking but that 3rd Gen Ryzen has limitations that 4th Gen just doesn’t.

Oh I get where you are coming from. It’s not like things would be unplayable, but you’d want to swap the 3600 sooner. Like right now I’ve got a 3600 paired with a gtx 1070. That works pretty well and is balanced I think. I’ll probably look to upgrading to an rtx 3060-3070 or equivalent once I save enough. But that said I’m at 1080 144hz, so I may not see as much cpu bottlenecks as other people. But for me to swap to 5000, I’m on a b350 board so zen 2 is as high as my board can support

I'm not quite sure. But it states that it is a FSP 800w HYDRO PRO 80Plus Bronze Certified PSU

There will always be a slightly newer cpu that will give a few more FPS in games. I would not say a 3600 is going to hold back that gpu “a lot”. I’m running a 3700x and 3080 for 1440p/4K and it’s a brilliant combination, I’d expect a 3600 and 3060 to be a great combination for 1080p.

Would a 5600x give more FPS? Yes. Is it enough to transform game play or even notice? No

I mean I wouldn't call a 15-35% performance gain in gaming when comparing the 3600 to the 5600X insignificant. In some games that will be the difference between achieving 144 fps and not.

It’s best to link the specific article but it wasn’t too hard to find, here for anyone interested https://www.techspot.com/review/2135-amd-ryzen-5600x/

That review is designed to maximise any differences between CPU’s, it uses a 3090 for 1080p. This is not a common or even recommended configuration, it’s purely for testing as doesn’t represent an average setup. As you go down gpu levels the differences between CPU’s will reduce, the gpu becomes less able to utilise the extra performance the cpu has to offer. There is nothing wrong with running a 3600 with a 3060, as I said earlier a 5600x would push more FPS but it’s not going to be anywhere near the difference when using a 3090 @ 1080p.

True but even in my own system, I have a 10700K. My RX 6700 XT is expected to push about 124 fps average in Far Cry 5 at 1440P/Ultra with a 5800X. With the CPU I have I average about 118 FPS, not transformational no. But for me its annoying to see FPS left on the table, so much that I am considering going to upgrading to 5800X. I recognize OP is probably not as anal as I am about it, but just trying to provide a counter argument.

Regardless, OP that system I am sure will serve you very well. Only thing is that FSP Hydro Pro Bronze PSU is not highest quality PSU probably will not brick your PC but questionable for sure.
