Hello fellows,

I work with statistical analysis on a laboratory of genomics and I have a question on PCs, because I live in Brazil I prefer to buy computers abroad, so it cannot be custom build.

Right now Im not sure about what PC should I buy. I have found this 3 options, and I must be realistic that size is important, I will bring it from USA and it cannot be as heavy and big as Alienware aurora (which is huge!)

I did not talk about graphic board because it really doesnt matter to me.

First option is an Alienware X51
16 gb RAM – 1600
SSD 256 gb
HD 1 TB
CPU Intel i7-4790
Price – 1479,00 USD

Second Option Dell XPS
32 gb RAM – 1600
SSD 256 gb
HD 3 TB
CPU Intel i7-4790
Price – 2128 USD

Third Option MacPro
12 gb RAM – 1866
SSD 256 gb
HD – none
CPU Intel Xeon E5 – quad core – 3.7
Price – 2999 USD

Considering the price of Apple Products I must say its quite a turn off, but if you guys believe the RAM frequency is worth it, I might take into consideration.

Thanks in advance

Maurício

How much RAM do you need? You are looking at machines that vary between 12 GB and 32 GB. If 12 GB will meet your needs then why are you looking at a Dell with 32 GB? If lots of RAM are not necessary, then go with the Alienware, it is about 66% the price of the Dell with otherwise almost identical specs, and half the price of the MacPro.

From what I've read, the faster memory of the MacPro won't help you much. At least it's not worth paying that much more for.
