So I travel quite a bit, and sometimes I'm away from power outlets for a day or two (some trips are to remote locations or I'm camping). Trying to find a power bank that would be able to charge my MS SP7 while away from an outlet. I think the power supply is rated at 65W, but am not quite sure how to go about figuring out what wattage is needed. Can I just use the 65W number and multiple by the number of charges I'm looking for and go by that to find a power bank or solar generator (so if I wanted 2 charges for example, then I would need about 160 watts, to factor in a bit for overhead?)

I'm looking to get this power bank:

and I'm sure it will give me at least one full charge, but am I going in the right direction for figuring out the wattage needed to charge the SP7? I know that I could use the USB-C port but was told that this trickle charges and can take significantly longer than using the regular AC adapter.

It is actually much more complex to calculate battery power. It is not just watts it is watt hours. A larger battery can put out the same number of watts but for a longer period of time. This is made even more complex because batteries are mostly rated in amp hours and you must convert them to watt hours.

Pretty much you need to find out how many amp hours the battery in your surface pro is and what the voltage is. Then find a powerbank and see what its battery amp hour and voltage is and covert it all to the same voltage. This will more or less let you guess how many times the powerbank battery can refill the laptop.

I would try to find a powerbank that has the correct type of USB C to fast charge your laptop. You generally need a special usb-c to usb-c charging cable. Converting the power to city ac power an then back again to dc is going to waste a large amount of your battery capacity.

Be aware there is a limit on how large a battery bank you can take on airplane so I would avoid going to large. Generally the limit is 100 watt hours.
