Choosing a PSU

I have a question about choosing a PSU, lets say that a build estimated watt is 400 lets say that I'm not going to upgrade and I choose 600 watt PSU is that wise? What about the 200 watt extra will it just go to waste? Can someone clarify this so I can understand.

Nope, if your system needs 400 watts it will only draw 400 watts from the PSU. Even if your PSU has a maximum of 600 watts. For 400 estimated i would recommend a 550-600 watt psu.
