I currently run a laptop with Windows7 and I am happy with it. As far as I can tell, all the above components are compatible with Windows 7&8. From the reviews I've read, folks are not all that crazy about 8, but it seems like it is mostly related to user interface. I am more concerned with system performance and concerned that I might not fully utilize the technology of the above if I don't use the latest Windows operating system. Does anyone have any thoughts on which is better, or, does t make a difference? I would appreciate your input.

Windows 7 will still take advantage of all that kit very nicely... I still wouldn't really recommend Windows 8 as it's mainly designed for touchscreen laptops and tablets, otherwise trying to navigate through that metro UI with a mouse is just a pain. My opinion: get windows 7. Windows 8 might boot slightly quicker than 7, but that's not important as your SSD should help with that anyways.

Thanks antoni7; that is what I was leaning toward. 1 reviewer said he could not find Windows 7 drivers for the ASUS Blu-Ray.

I'm sure there would be a driver for it somewhere, but most optical drives are just plug and play, no driver needed.

I recommend going for Windows 8, there are a bunch of 3rd party programs that restore the user interface back to what you see in Win7. The background optimizations of Win8 are worth the small inconvenience of installing those programs IMO.

Start8 is a good one, it does cost $5 to get but that's not exactly much compared to what your already spending.
