Hey everyone, I'm going to buy a new pc, and I'm doubting between 2 different ones, with minor differences. The price difference is €200 though. I gotta choose between an i7-4790, or an i5-6400. My GPU will be an Nvidia GTX 960. I do know the i7-4790 is a gigantic overkill, but if I wanna upgrade to a GTX 980 or a idk what Nvidia will release, will the i5-6400 processor be able to keep up?

For the people who wanna see the full setup:
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-6400 or i7-4790 @ 2,7GHz or 3,6GHz
Windows 10 Home
GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 960
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
128GB SSD, 2.000 GB HDD

Note: I do know that that's a lot of HDD space, but I'm buying it from a site, not creating it myself.

Solution
If your only gaming then I would go with the i5. However, if you plan on doing heavily threaded applications then the i7 will perform better.

Yea, my first concern is gaming, but, just to be sure, can you give an example of a "heavily threaded applications"?

Thanks for your answer btw!

Any sort of 3D modelling software, Photoshop, 7-zip, and pretty much anything involving editing or encoding video are heavily threaded apps.
