Solution
If you buy the laptop, then you will be stuck with the CPU and GPU. They are soldered into the motherboard. The mobile GTX 980m is less powerful than a desktop GTX 970 GPU. If you are only playing games then 24GB of RAM is overkill. You can boast about it to people if you want. But if you say that to other PC gamers who knows their hardware then they will simply say, "So what"? There aren't even many games that requires 12GB RAM. I think Batman Arkham Knight is one of two games *can't remember the other game) which requires 12GB of RAM... and even after that game was patched up and released it is still buggy. Come on... 12GB of RAM for a PC game ported over from a console?

If having a gaming laptop that you take anywhere to play games...
It is for gaming
yeah but picking these two pcs as they are without upgrading which one is the best? price/quality
i'd still have to buy a screen and they're not cheap i guess (+350$?)

If having a gaming laptop that you take anywhere to play games (as long as there is an AC outlet) is important to you, then go with the laptop.

While it sucks that you cannot bring a gaming desktop anywhere you want to go, it is easy to upgrade and generally costs less than a gaming laptop. A laptop would need to have two GTX 980m SLI'ed to equal a desktop GTX 980. When the GTX 980 can no longer play new games with the settings you want to use and the performance you expect, then simply buy a new GPU.

Me? I have a gaming desktop and a business laptop with an okay dedicated GPU (Core i5-4200u, 1080p screen,Radeon HD 8850m which is a bit more powerful than a nVidia 940m) which I bought refurbished for about $500. It good enough to play games decently in a pinch... like right now...

My desktop has been out of commission (will not boot up) since Sunday Nov 8th which means I have to play Fallout 4 on my laptop. I finally tracked it down to the GPU with the help of my old old Radeon X1900 XT GPU. Looks like I am on the hunt for a new GPU...

Maybe a powerful gaming PC and a laptop with an "okay" GPU is a possible solution for you.

Personally I would take the laptop but, thats because I travel frequently it's just about what you are into man and how your life is.
The PC is better but, in circumstanced like mine a laptop would be better.
