Question Choosing between RTX 4060 gaming laptops ?

Hey all,


I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop and would really appreciate your thoughts. I’ve been researching for days, and I’ve narrowed it down to three models—all with RTX 4060 GPUs but with different builds, CPUs, and screens. I’m leaning toward the MSI Katana 15 B13VFK (i9, 32GB RAM, QHD), but I’ve read mixed things about its build quality and thermals. Hoping someone with real-life experience can weigh in!


Models I’m considering:

🔹 MSI Katana 15 B13VFK​

• CPU: i9-13900H
• RAM: 32GB
• GPU: RTX 4060 8GB
• Display: 15.6" QHD
• Why I’m leaning toward it: Its power (i9 + 32GB RAM) and the higher resolution QHD screen. Seems like great value for future-proofing.

🔹 HP Victus 16-r0068ne​

• CPU: i7-13700H
• RAM: 16GB
• GPU: RTX 4060 8GB
• Display: 16" QHD
• Why I’m considering it: I've seen great reviews on thermals, battery life (~7 hrs), and screen quality. But slightly older CPU and less RAM.

🔹 Lenovo LOQ 151RX9​

• CPU: i7-14700HX
• RAM: 16GB
• GPU: RTX 4060 8GB
• Display: 15.6" FHD
• Why I’m considering it: Very strong CPU performance, great thermals from what I’ve read, but I’m worried about Reddit reports of motherboard issues.

Some questions I have:

• Is the MSI Katana really that bad in terms of build quality, thermals, or display brightness? Does it thermal throttle heavily?
• Is the HP Victus a better all-rounder despite the older CPU and lower RAM?
• Can anyone confirm issues with Lenovo LOQ motherboards dying randomly? Is it a common issue or just a few bad units?
• Which of these would you personally recommend for long-term use (gaming, browsing, light editing)?
• Anything else I should consider? (Fan noise, hinge durability, upgradeability, etc.)

For context, I already have a mid-range PC, so the laptop is mainly for portability as I move between houses—but I still want the option to run AAA games at decent settings, which is why I'm leaning toward a Windows laptop instead of a MacBook Air (which is in the same price range).

IMHO, I'd avoid anything with an Intel equipped 13th and 14th Gen processor, due to the oxidation issue which is actually an issue on the fabrication level.

If you must choose between either of the laptops, you can go with either one just be sure to pick up some high quality thermal paste and pads, then repaste and repad the internals of the laptop to counter high temps. It's actually a normal thing to see your processor run at 100 Deg C, they need to go beyond that temp to thermal throttle.

Also, the last laptop on the list is capable of undervolting so you might want to go with Lenovo laptop.

In all honesty, we might say a, b or c, but you'll have to live with your purchase. You mentioned you're looking into a gaming laptop but you didn't mention any of the titles you wish to tax the laptop with. To add, you then state you want to use it for editing, what apps are you referring to here?

If it's for portability, you should downgrade your processor's expectations to something with an i5 or hold with an i7 instead of looking at a hot headed i9. Would be better if you went with something from AMD's Ryzen.
