[SOLVED] Choosing CPU upgrade

Hello everyone.

I'm planning to choose a cpu(mobo and ram too) pairing with rx 580.

My question was: Does AMD GPUs works better with AMD CPUs and vice versa?

I was planning to go for a I3 9100F and a B360 mobo. But i heard that significant perfomance boost will happen if you pair a AMD GPU wih a AMD CPU.

If yes can someone suggest an AMD CPU with MoBo less than 200$

No, there's no optimisation or improvement between Ryzen/AMD CPU's and AMD/ATI GPU's, nor is it that way with Intel/Nvidia.

Don't worry about the 'compatibility' warning, PCPartpicker doesn't know about MSI's MAX motherboards that all come with BIOS compatible with 3000 series Ryzen processors.

That's got a 2600, a better processor but it's slightly over your budget.

Keep in mind, if you don't have it you'll also need a DDR4 memory kit. And the first combo is based around an APU (3200G) that has a pretty decent iGPU, the second combo with a 2600 will need a capable GPU to extract it's potential.

Be careful which benchmarks you're looking at because a lot of them are biased towards Intel.

a quad core cpu is no longer recommended for AAA gaming. at least 8 threads are needed because all games are written for the 8-core consoles first

I don't know much about it but Smartshift is a feature built into AMD's Laptop APU's. It probably has no relevance to desktop CPU/discrete GPU combinations.

I'd seriously agree a 3200G is only 'good' if you need it's iGPU, not really a great starter if you have a decent enough GPU you're pairing it with. But while it would still work very well it's nowhere as good as the 2600. The 2600 is 6 core/12 thread and there's been a lot of success overclocking it to 4.0-4.1Ghz, if you're willing. That motherboard is quite capable for that, and also a good platform to upgrade to a 3700X (Zen 2, 15% IPC uplift, 8 core/16 thread) or possibly even a 4000 series processor when they come out.

The 9100F is 4 core/4 thread and no overclocking possible and unless you get a much more capable and expensive motherboard probably dead-ended for upgrades. Should be enough said with that as modern AAA titles are thread crazy and any productivity work will be choked by it in a modern Windows work environment.

It really should be a fairly easy decision if you can handle the slightly higher budget. This is why Intel's in a world of hurt with the DIY market.

Wait did they refresh 1600 to a 12nm and they are selling it?

Yes they did! it was released with an 'AF' suffix to the model number (original 14nm 1600's had an 'AE' suffix). The only reason I did not mention it is because the last I'd heard is 'AF' 1600's were pretty much sold out. But if you can catch one that would totally be OP's best option as it's going to keep his combo cost under his budget.
