[SOLVED] Choosing parts for build

Hi,

I need help to choose my new PC configuration for coding, media playback, streaming and with 4k support

Approximate Purchase Date: in a month

Budget Range: $800 / 900€ (after Shipping)

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
  1. watching movies in 4K on Linux OS's
  2. heavy coding (many Docker containers also)
  3. gaming on Windows OS
  4. video and music production on both Linux and Windows OS's
4k full support is very important to me (e.g. I want to see any 4k video on Linux without any lag or freeze :)).

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade:
  • CPU (do I need a water cooler upgrade? At the moment I have a normal Zalman CNPS10X Performa+)
  • GPU
  • RAM
  • Power supply
  • Motherboard
  • Tower
  • Fans (for quite configuration, if not included in the tower)
Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: amazon.it, eprice.it, ebay.it

Location: Italy

Parts Preferences: Prefer to avoid Gygabyte for the Modo because I read it has issues with Linux OS's.

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No (I don't think I will need for my use cases, right?)

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080, but in the future I will upgrade to 4K

Additional Comments:

some comments about the tower:
  • need a cool tower, good airflow, great cable management and easiness of cleaning.
  • since I want a quite PC configuration, I am planning to buy quite fans, so, in tower the tower you are advising included fans, it would be nice to be quite ones or at least would be nice the tower to be thought for quite configurations.
  • I have a CD/DVD reader and a fan controller, so it would be nice to have a place for them in the front (about the fan controller only if needed and not included in the new tower).
  • it would be nice the tower to have easily removable dust filters.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: my current configuration is pretty old (10 years old).

Any help will be appreciate, especially full build suggestions (e.g. builds from https://pcpartpicker.com/)
Thank you!

Wow great to know that, thanks to both of you guys.
About the rest I am pretty much convinced, the only doubt I still have is about the case, the 2300 is a little old and I still prefer the Define R6 (for the airflow stats, transparent glass and removable dust filters). I know the budget will fly with it but maybe I can try to afford it.
What so you think about that R6?
The Define R6 is a very good case, but its a bit on the expensive side. You can look at the Define S, which is equally good but quite a bit cheaper than the R6. Should be in your budget. It has front and bottom filters as well...

thank you, it is a great configuration.
I have only a few question:
  • Since I will reuse my 3 HDD's and 2 SSD's (Samsung 860 EVO and Sasmsung 850 PRO) do I still need that SSD you suggested for any specific reason? (e.g. not to reduce too much the performance of all the new components)
  • I have 3 HDD's and the tower you suggested has max 2 slots for HDD's, so is there any alterantive to it? E.g. what do you think about the Fractal Define R6?
  • About the CPU cooler (I forgot to mention in the original post), I see it is integrated in the Ryzen 3600, but do you think I should upgrade to a water cooler? If yes, which one? At the moment I have Zalman CNPS10X Performa+.
Thank you!

An NVME drive is definitely faster, but with your budget I will skip the extra cost for now if I already have 2 SSD.

The cooler you have and the stock cooler will be in the same operating ballpark, but whether your cooler will support the new Ryzen socket is something you have to figure out. If it doesnt, you have to contact zalman for AM4 brackets. Or simply use the stock cooler as it is pretty good too.

ok great thanks for the answer.
I see PCPartPicker says:

Warning! Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

and I found some threads out there:

View: https://www.reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/comments/eh3g9j/issues_using_msi_b450_tomahawk_max_with_ryzen_5/

so do you think I will have issues with that mobo and that CPU?

Any B450 board with the word MAX in the title will be ready out of the box for the Matisse CPU. You're fine.

The B450 Tomahawk Max is literally the most sold motherboard at the moment. Everyone is recommending it. It's a good board. Good VRM's. You can put a 3900x on that board without any problems. Receiving a DOA board or a defective board can always happen. This should not stop you from buying this board.

Basically, PCPP cannot distinguish between old b450 and new b450 boards. The MSI B450 MAX Series was launched along with the 3xxx series CPUs with upgraded BIOS and full support.

Great thanks.
I have just found this GPU (same model of the suggested one) on offer: https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07QYW3HS9
Is it good as well or not?

Hi,

sorry for the late in my answer.
I just wanted to update you that I succeded in buying the following components at very good prices:
so at the end I spared €24,79 until now.
Is there anything you may want to change in the configuration for any improvement or I can leave it like that?

Thanks
