Choppy Gameplay After Not Using PC for about a month....

I have been doing a bit of console gaming recently and I havent used my PC for about a month. When I went to use it this weekend I am experiencing VERY choppy gameplay on more graphics intensive games. Games like Left 4 Dead, Portal, Battleblock Theatre work fine. Everything else on the PC works as it should which is why I have narrowed it down to a graphics issue.

I have a fairly decent rig so I do not understand why this is happening. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I have already tried updating BIOS, installing and uninstalling drivers, etc.

Intel i5
Gigabyte ga-b85m-d3h
16GB Vengence RAM
XFX AMD radeon r9 290

Please help...

Scan your pc for any virusses , mallware.

Update the PC GPU drivers

That should fix any problems
