[SOLVED] Chrome causes hard shutdown on home built PC

Hi,

I have two different home built computers that have been experiencing an issue. The issue occurs on both Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 10 Enterprise. When using the computer, if Chrome is started the computer instantly turns off. Not only does it turn off, but the only way to turn it back on is to disconnect the PSU from the motherboard and then reconnect it. The computer will then work.

The CPU was just upgraded to the 8350 from an 8120 since I thought there was a possible heat issue, but the issue still happens with the new CPU.

In addition, originally the computer was just Windows 7 Enterprise, but I just installed a new SSD dirve with Windows 10 Enterprise (in a dual boot configuration) to no avail.

I have built 3 of these computers and the only real difference is the BIOS version and the graphics card.

The issue does not appear to happen in Edge or Firefox.

Hardware:
CPU: AMD FD8350FRHKBOX FX-8350 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 running BIOS version FD
8 GB RAM
ThermalTake TR-600 TR2 ATX12V & EPS12V 600W PSU

I am very confused as to the cause of this issue and would welcome any solutions. I do not have any ideas on how to proceed and am getting tired of investing in the computer which works great other than this issue.

Solution
Like I said the 8350 isnt a supported CPU. And since FF and Edge dont crash it, I would say Chrome is the other prob

Disable hardware acceleration in Chrome. That seems to fix the crashing sometimes
Looks like there's 3 revisions of this mobo. But none of them support the 8350

The only revision that has BIOS FD is rev 3. But that doesn't list the FX-8350 as a supported CPU either

The only FX8 CPU's it supports are

AMD FX-8370E 3300MHz 1MBx8 8MB Vishera 32nm C0 95W 5200 FEg
AMD FX-8320E 3200MHz 1MBx8 8MB Vishera 32nm C0 95W 5200 FEg
AMD FX-8310 3400MHz 1MBx8 8MB Vishera 32nm C0 95W 5200 FEg
AMD FX-8300 3300MHz 1MBx8 8MB Vishera 32nm C0 95W 5200 FD
AMD FX-8140 3200MHz 1MBx8 8MB Bulldozer 32nm B2 95W 5200 FD
AMD FX-8120 3100MHz 1MBx8 8MB Bulldozer 32nm B2 95W 5200 FD
AMD FX-8100 2800MHz 1MBx8 8MB Bulldozer 32nm B2 95W 5200 FB

Hi Paul,

The original CPU was an 8120 AMD and the problem was happening with that as well. I would say that rules out the CPU as the issue. Since this CPU is faster, I have left it in the computer. There appear to be no issues running with this CPU.

Only one of the computers does not have this issue (also an 8120). I have no problem blaming Google for bad software, but why do I need to pull the PSU from the motherboard in order to restart the computer?
