Hi, upon opening Chrome, it closes right away, no time to go to settings or anything.. Window up, window down. This started June 23, 2018.

IE works fine, but all my bookmarks are in Chrome.

I updated Spybot, Malwarebytes and AVG, ran SB and MB in safe mode.

Did system restore to 4 days ago, before the problems started.

Did scannow…

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17134.112]
(c) 2018 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc/scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Nothing works...
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Rename the following sub-directory:

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

to

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Backup Default

then try launching Google Chrome again.

A new "Default" sub-directory will be automatically created.

If this works then your old Google Chrome profile account may have been corrupted.

Thanks, that worked for the new profile, but it wiped all my bookmarks... I'll just put them on a notepad in the future.

The bookmarks should still be in the

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Backup Default

sub-directory. That was the reason for renaming it. None of your previous bookmarks, favorites and browsing history was deleted.

You should be able to copy the file

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Backup Default\Bookmarks

overwriting the Bookmarks file in the now working

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

sub-directory.

Try this somehow Windows disabled Chrome and will not let you open it even if you re-install a fresh copy. as soon as you remove chrome from the process menu chrome should work again.

Windows
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.
Click Task manager.
Under ‘Processes’, look for ‘Google Chrome’ or ‘chrome.exe’.
Click it, then click End process.

Mac
Press ⌘ + Option + Esc.
Look for ‘Google Chrome’.
Click it, then click Force quit.
