I've had this desktop for a few years. I got the "Chrome needs to relauch to update" message, so I pressed re-launch and it didn't come up. The restarted the computer, same thing. Then I uninstalled, re-installed. Same thing.
Then I remove the google folder in the users/appdata/local...
tried the re-install again, same thing.

What I notice on the re-installs, it goes through the google popus on installing, but never says install complete, it just closes the window and it shows up on my desktop icon and I can run it ( it just doesn't open and the process is gone on task manager).

Solution
tried running a CCleaner and Register cleaner, then go:/users/USERNAMEHERE/AppData/Local and delete the Chrome/google folder

reboot and try again

Thanks for the thought. It looked promising, but it didn't work. I also tried to use a program called iobit uninstaller and it removed everything in the registry as well, but after many restarts and uninstalls, it still fails

I did this, manual and with iobit uninstaller, but it didn't work

Actually I tried the CCleaner and then Malwarebytes

I don't know which one did it, but after a restart and install it worked now!
