Context
Google sent me a Chromebook prototype several years ago for beta testing. The model is Cr48 "MARIO FISH 2330". Although I am more than comfortable on Windows and OS X, I am a Linux novice. Yesterday I decided to try installing Linux (specifically Lubuntu) on this Chromebook for the purpose of learning & tinkering. After some research, it seemed absolutely possible, and likely doable.

What I Did
The Problem
I am now able to press F2 (ctrl + alt + ->) at boot to enter new bios.
But after bios (which I guess is called Post?), the machine fans spin down, text is displayed, but the machine is unresponsive. I have tried several different bios settings with no luck.. Although there seems to be a change in behavior between primary boot source USB vs HD.

Attempted Solutions
  • ■Changing several options in bios. Fail.
■Running Chrome OS recovery from USB. No dice.
Conclusion
Seems I need to re-flash the BIOS back to default with the .bin file I saved. But I have no idea how to do that without being able to get into any environment.. CLI or GUI.

Since I can't copy/paste the errors or take screenshots.. here are some photos.
