Hello
My Dad is stuck in Hospital and I would really appreciate some help trying to figure out how to get my Chromecast working with the TV in his Hospital Room so he doesn't go insane with boredom!
Maybe you've used a Chromecast like this with a TV when you were travelling or at a friends place etc?
Whatever you did might work in this situation too?
I've tried following instructions online but it's not going to plan.
I can't tell what the TV is as it's bolted to the wall, I know it's a Hisense, has HDMI's, Ethernet, USB's etc so it can't be too ancient.
It's thicker than a new one but still a flat panel (again wall mounted) - but it's probably at least 3 - 10 years old ???
There is no remote control for the TV like normal... the hospital bed has a weird dongle thing connected to the bed and apparently it only has channel and volume buttons built into that.
I don't know if that's going to be a problem - but I don't think it matters.
I think the Chromecast should automatically switch to HDMI etc when it needs to take over?
I don't know if the TV has it's own Chromecast - but I've plugged in a round second generation Chromecast that I had from home (with power adapter).
I held the power button until the lights went crazy etc so I'm pretty sure it has been reset.
There is no WIFI in the Hospital so I'm trying to use the Hotspot provided by his Android Phone (powered by his Mobile Data from his Phone) and then stream from his Chromebook to the TV (Chromebook also using the hotspot from the Phone).
From what I've read - I should be able to get it to work either:
A) with normal proper Casting button functions and/or
B) limited to simple screen mirroring.
My understanding is that you either use the Chromebook and/or a second android phone to initially setup the Chromecast with the TV - then after that he can just use the Chromebook for streaming.
I've installed and updated the Google Home app on both the phone and Chromebook.
When I've tried running through the setup - I get to the point where it says to use the code on the screen to connect the TV initially - but there is no code.
I have a feeling it's accidentally trying to connect to a different TV in someone else's room?
Can't find any way to get it working right?
It's possible the lack of remote might be the issue here?
I assume it should automatically switch to the HDMI channel if that's what it needs to display the code?
But maybe you need the remote to do this?
There is a slim possibility I can find someone at the hospital who can tell me exactly what model TV it is and maybe even get a hold of the remote - but I doubt either will happen!
I may have to give my dad instructions over the phone so it would be great if someone could provide or point to simple instructions and if possible - more detailed ones too (maybe he could look it up online too on the Chromebook?)
I really hope someone might be able to help as my Dad must be going out of his mind with boredom!
Thanks for your time
cheers
