Yeh it says that the device doesnt have drivers. Mind helping me finding the correct one?Yes. You can check Device Manager to see if one is installed.
If not, you will have to use another PC to download the drivers to a USB.
Damn... I am doing this over the phone, no way I can do it thenThe model number you posted above comes back as a Lenovo device. You would need to visit their site, look up your specific model PC support page and then look for downloads. IDK if Lenovo does like some others (Dell/HP) where it will have a service tag number to enter to make things easier.
Alternately, you can check the properties in Device Manager and somewhere in there is a hardware id string you can attempt to search.
No no I mean I am helping someone over the phone It will be impossible to get and number from a computer from them, I am not near that computer I am trying to get their ethernet to work so that I can connect with teamviewer and work from there, but its soo hard.I am not sure whether you could download the driver into an accessible folder on your phone and then transfer it via USB connection? They will typically be a zipped folder that you would have to extract on the machine needing it.
Have a friend or family member with a PC you can access?
Do you still have the driver disks or USB for this PC put up somewhere?
I replaced a motherboard there and a clean install of windows 7.This leaves a lot of variables.
If the PC wasn't reset to lose the driver installed, then things such as damage, such as the owner not knowing what to plug into, and so forth are all difficult to answer.
Is the system too far away for a trip over to check on?
Pinging 8.8.8.8 seems to work, sent 4, received 4.Have them try to ping 8.8.8.8?
Perhaps check ipconfig/all to see if they are being assigned or can even see the router?
Once again, really too many variables at play. This starts getting a little out of my wheelhouse and in particular without hands on.
Thank you very much for all the help-From this point, someone smarter than myself will have to help.
There are a bevy of results for a search "can ping 8.8.8.8 but no internet"
Perhaps some helpful information resides there. Apologies that I cannot be of further assistance.
Told them to screenshot the ipconfig/all, which info can I give you that would matter?Do you know if the router is set to assign DHCP, or if the IP addy was set manually?
Try search bar "cmd" and then 'ipconfig/all' It should show some helpful info.
I can see the ethernet adapter and it is DHCP enabled YES nad Autoconfiguration enabled YES, ipv6 address starting with 2a00: ipv4 address 102.168... if that is what you had in mind?In that, if they can see the router it will be listed as the gateway and if the PC is being assigned an IP address by the router it will be listed. Other visible devices on the network should be shown as well.
Windows 7 could be the problem. ALMOST everything needs HTTPS. Windows 7 needed SP2 plus updates to keep the security required for HTTPsI replaced a motherboard there and a clean install of windows 7.
They now managed to install the correct driver, and the windows says it is connected to the public network (via ethernet cable), but when they open internet, it doesnt work.
Oh, never even thought about that. Can I check which SP is currently installed? And could I upgrade to SP2 and install all the updates with current problems, or will that not work either? I could install a windows 10 on it, but I dont have that computer with me.Windows 7 could be the problem. ALMOST everything needs HTTPS.
