This can't be a review yet because I haven't even cracked the manual, but
thirty minutes of flying turned up no faults. Frame rates are fine on a
high end system.

What, I can say is the model and VC are exceptional.

Just be greatful that you don't have to top it up with 100LL before each
flight 😉

God bless Flight Simulator.

It appears that the right hand side of the panel in VC mode is slightly
slanted towards the pilot - is that the way it is in the real a/c?

Not very friendly for the right seat guy who wants to take a turn at the
wheel. "Would you mind leaning back, I can't see the HSI..."

And the controls... I wonder how long it takes you to get used the
left-handed side control yoke.

From what I understand, the side stick is easy to get used to because you
already fly with one hand (the left) even when flying a traditional yoke.

The elevator would be the same. The ailerons would require a whole new
muscle group to twist with your wrist instead of using your bicep.

I need to correct myself here a bit... to run the "full 2D & VC" model
*without compromises* it looks like you will need an up to the minute
bleeding edge computer. I have what used to be a high end system a couple
of years ago: AMD3200+ FX5900-128MG & 768MB RAM - Frame rate limiter is
set to 20.

In the 2D cockpit with default scenery and a cloudy ActiveSky day, things
can get a little choppy. Not a slideshow... just choppy. Frame rate goes
from 20 to 13 to 20 to 11 to 20 to 16... add UTUSA at dusk, things were
even more choppy.

Now here is the weird part, frame rates become more acceptable in the VC
than the 2D cockpit sticking pretty close to 20-17 fps. If I picked the "VC
only" or the "2D only" model, frame rates stuck close to 20 fps also.

The bottom line, this is the first add on to make me feel my computer's age.
The Cirrus is the first modern glass cockpit for a GA aircraft in FS9 and it
clearly puts a load on resources. It's not a deal breaker for me at all,
but anyone with a less powerful computer needs to be prepared to make some
compromises with weather, slider settings and choice of model to fly.

Yes... Good eye for perspective detail! 😉

Well, there's only a three inch "throw," so it sure doesn't take a lot of
movement...

Indeed you are correct in your observations, Dallas. This is the first FS9
a/c I've ever seen that actually DOES perform better in the VC... 😉

There is a LOT of processing going on in the Avidyne system. We actually
had to scale back our original plans, because between the sim's weak "gauge
engine" and the overhead of processing so much data, including all the
C-Max features would have brought even the most advanced hardware to it's
knees.

Since this entire project is officially backed and sanctioned by both
Cirrus and Avidyne, we are fully comitted to continuous research and
development, and will be releasing free updates to the basic core feature
group as soon as they are made.

C-Max includes detailed terrain maps, enroute charts, airport charts, etc.

As you might imagine, the database required is HUGE. It took me three days
to finish downloading the stuff from Avidyne's ftp site, including their
source code they used to create the database... 😉

Congratulations,

You've just "bit" on exactly the point the marketing people at Cirrus want
you to think:

So simple, even a kid could fly it...

;O)

I'm trying to figure out your response... Please enlighten us on the
point that you're trying to make.

It's just a hunch, but my hunch says that you have no idea what you're
talking about.

Dave.. was making a joke that Cirrus was simulating a computer.. and
apparently Jay thought (or has knowledge of) the manufacturer intended
the design to appear as such. Not sure if a kid could `simply' fly it
... unless the reference is to FlightSim. :)

We try not to be too serous in here.. that is unless it's a..
"you're stealing my work" ... kind of thing!!
