Currently we have a setup with Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 running on Windows
NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition. Well, we just had our 2nd crash of the
Citrix server and have been down for 1 1/2 days, after being down for
3 days a few months ago...so it's time to get another server and load
balance. But I've never even looked at load balancing, so...

Here's what I need to know:
- Can we do load balancing with NT 4.0 TSE? I think that the answer is
yes.
- Licensing?!? What do we need for NT, Citrix? Right now, we have 45
user licenses pooled for Citrix connections.

I'm trying to find the most cost-effective way (ok, cheap like the
company wants) to do the load balancing. Therefore, I'd rather not
have to upgrade to Windows 2003, unless it would be cheaper. Of course
that's also assuming I can get NT licenses other than on eBay! We do
have subscription advantage with Citrix, so I have a copy of Citrix
XP. I do remember reading something about the licensing being
different with W2K3.

Any help would be great as I really have nothing right now. Thanks to
you all.

load balancing is a function of Citrix, build another server and use the
default load balancer

Load balancing is NOT built into MF 1.8 for NT.
It was sold as an add-on package for MF 1.8.

It was included later in the advanced versions of MF XP.
Unfortunately Citrix no longer sells the Load Balancing package for MF 1.8.
As you say you check on eBay you might be able to find a copy there if you
want to stick with MF 1.8 on NT

FYI you can run up to MF XP FR1 on NT4.
If you want to stick with NT4, upgrade your MF licenses to a MF XP version
with load balancing and that also allows you to create an unlimited number
of MF XP servers since you would be licensing by your connection licenses
now instead of by server (as with MF 1.8)
