Considering the possibility of a Telus takeover don't expect it to ever
appear here...

Why would you say that? Telus only put a notice of an offer out to the Board
of Directors of Microcell... They still have not put any money down nor has
Microcell sold the company to Telus... What is to say that Bell, Rogers,
Sprint, Allstream and/or any other Telecom company would not jump in and
beat the 1.1 Billion offer from Telus?

I don't see why if Microcell was planning on releasing City Fido in Toronto
they would stop now because of a "Notice" from Telus that they would like to
buy Fido/Mcell for $1.1 Bil.

Agreed. Business as usual always continues in these situations. I worked for
Compaq during the inital HP takeover days and nothing changed with regard to
our business and how we pursued it...

I agree, if the launch is indeed planned it will likely happen. What I meant
is it looks VERY likely as if SOMEONE will be buying out Microcell, and in
almost all cases it's very likely the buyer's first move would be to can
city fido. TTYL

It's a great idea, launching CityFido will get alot of Bell and Rogers
customers over to Fido which will eventually mean those customers will be
really going to Telus.

It's business as usual.
The board of directors and shareholders must accept the tender.
If anything the current share prices are above the tender price that Telus
is offering. Even if it is accepted I think Telus will have to offer a
little more due to the recent surge in Microcell shares.

Why the hell is everyone so pessimestic about the merger?

Mergers could be Telus' strategy for entering the GSM market, a horizontal
merger to obtain more customers. If Telus buys out Microcell do you really
think they are going to drop the GSM network that Fido has worked so hard to
build? Imagine the amount of pissed off customers Telus would have? In
short the merger is good news for shareholders and wake up, our GSM Fido
accounts will more than likely still be around. I know of a Telus business
customers who curse to me that they cannot use their phone outside our
continent. If anything Telus acquiring Fido means that our GSM network
could be expanded but also current Telus customers will have some sort of
roaming option when travelling overseas (or at least I hope so).

Look at the past history of Telus, then you'll know exactly why...

The spectrum cap pretty much prevents Telus from keeping much of a GSM
network going in many areas of canada, unless they drastically dump CDMA
coverage...
