[SOLVED] CL15 and CL16

My main PC has 2x4 2666 DDR4 CL15 memory modules installed. Decided to add extra 2x4 to total of 4x4. I found same exact manifacturer, same frequincy and capacity memory, but it is labeled as CL16. CPU is Ryzen 5 2600, quad channel doesn't work, but it registers 4 modules as dual channel if it's plugged in correct way. Can I buy CL16 even though system has CL15 ?

AM4 does not support quad channel. You can use 4 dims but it will be dual channel with 2 dims per channel. Running 4 dims puts extra load on the memory controller and can make it harder for RAM to run at rated speed.

Your biggest problem is mixing RAM, even if you find the exact same make and model you can have issues. RAM is best bought and used in the matched kits it is sold. Have a read here of the odd man out https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq...y-ram-and-xmp-profile-configurations.3398926/

If you do buy CL16 and it works (which it might) then all your RAM defaults to the slowest speed which is CL16.

CL16 is fine. Lower is better but the difference between these if everything else is the same is negligible.

so i can add 2 sticks of CL16 next to 2 sticks of CL15?
