Clamping Card Edge on Existing Floppy IDC Ribbon

My plans are to connect two floppy drives in my vintage build, one 3.5" and one 5.25" However, out of all the cables I've seen online that have the standard 34-pin 3.5" IDC connection, as well as the card edge are way too long at 24"-36" I need no longer than 20" max.

So here's my question; if I were to order a standard 2-device 34-pin 3.5" IDC cable, would it be safe to clamp on a 34-pin card edge connection? I know I'll probably have to peel the twist in the cable a bit to make sure it fits correctly. And I only have access to a bench vice.

Please reply ASAP, thank you.

Solution
I used to do it all the time and had to peel nothing, just make sure it's properly positioned and do it in one clamp, no hesitation.

Floppy... you gotta be kidding. :D
I had a '66 Mercury M100 xl, pickup for long time, built like a tank !! Restored from frame up and with a Cleavland 351, 4 bbl, crossbolt Boss @400 HP. Unlike computers it can be modern for many life times.
Also have a friend with wood saw mill that uses a 386 for control. I'm keeping two sets of MBs with 386-16 DX for spares for him in case he needs them.

Oh wow, just looking at pictures of that thing on Google, :wahoo: nice! And the rumble of that Cleveland, sweeeeeet! That's the kind of truck I'm looking for in the future. :D

Ah, the 386 seems to be great for ancient DOS games, pretty cool how it could be used in a sawmill.
