Clean install and 7 doesn't see my cable modem

What in the world is going on? I decided to upgrade from XP to 7 and no drivers in 7 for network or cable modems???? It can't find my cable modem, has no idea and neither do I now. The modem of course didn't come with a CD, didn't need it as XP at least had drivers to allow use of anything generic. Microsoft does suck but anyone have an idea on how I can actually use my new drive and OS for more than just storage?

check the device manager for devices listed under Other Devices

Did that, it's question marked and doing a search for drivers under modem and network drivers doesn't bring up any Netgear products which is what my cable modem is. When I simply try to update drivers for unknown device it says it can't find anything.

does the cable modem have a USB that you are connecting to?

what model cable modem is it?

Usually one connects to a cable modem via network cable in which case there is no driver required for the modem only for the network card.
