So I currently have a 2tb Seagate barracuda with win 7 installed. I think its time to do a clean reinstall so i thought why not upgrade to an SSD. The thing is I want to store things on the 2tb drive, but I want to wipe it first. Is there a way to wipe the drive COMPLETELY, then reinstall win 7 using the dvds that came with my computer to the SSD, then plug in the wiped 2tb? Thanks for the help!

Solution
Do it from the windows installation disk. INstall the disk, boot up in to the WIndows start up. You will see both hard drives. Choose the 2tb, click advanced options, format. You can format the SSD here and set up any additional partitions you want.

Have ONLY the SSD connected when you install. This will prevent the System Reserved partition (boot info) from ending up on the HDD.

Once everything is up and running on the SSD, then you connect the HDD.
Wipe and reformat as needed.

System Reserved partition is 100mb so it isn't a big issue but if you want to do it fully clean yeah you can do it this way. Alternatively you can disconnect the HDD, install WIn 7 on SSD and then go into Disk Management after you reconnected your HDD and format it there.

No it's not a big issue, until you want to repurpose that drive elsewhere, or it dies.
