Ok you may have seen some of my previous posts with blue screen crash problems. Anyways I think I have finally decided to go to windows 8.1 to see if it will fix it. Although I would like to know how to do a total clean install so that if the blue screen was caused by a bad registry or just a virus then it will be fixed on a clean install.

Also would like to ask if there is anything I should realize before I upgrade or anything I need to watch out for.

I am currently running windows 7 ultimate with
amd fx 6200
gigabyte 750ti
asrock 970 pro3 r.2

THANKS!

Think you are misusing terms here.

Installing windows to the drive will erase all of the saved files on the drive and wipe it out.

The reason I said you were misusing terms is because your computer has a part inside of it that is called memory (also referred to as ram). Memory is the short-term location and your hard drive is long term location for files; when you access a file it gets loaded from the hard drive to memory. Thus when say you open Microsoft word, the files needed for the program get loaded from the hard drive into memory and that is why there is a delay for the program to fully load.
Just backup your files first,
then use the dvd or usb drive and install windows, selecting the drive you already have windows one when it asks where to install windows to.

You will need to get Win 8 drivers for the asrock board.
You don't want to be in a situation where there is no Ethernet driver and thus you cant go to the site and download it, so just go to the asrock site and download all the drivers now to a flash drive. THen once you finish installing windows and have booted into it, then install the drivers.

And installing it to the drive that i currently have windows on will erase all of my current memory correct?
