Hi, I used a Windows 10 USB stick created from the Media Creation Tool to re-install windows 10 home. In the installation start-up process I deleted all the hard drives and partitions to run a clean install of Windows 10.

Once the installation was complete I checked C: and saw a folder called Windows.old. Is this normal for a clean installation of Win 10?

Solution

No thats not normal... Unless the media creation tool is old and doesn't have 1151 part of it.
1151 update will create a Windows.old folder.

Hope you dont mind me answering a year late lol. Just saw the question from my old threads.

I dont seem to recall the exact used space but it was a couple of gigs. I eventually had Windows live support look into it and I was informed it was harmless. Eventually they connected to my machine via remote access and deleted the entire folder. I tried initially myself but kept getting errors and the deletion would fail so they used an alternative method and trashed it all.
