Hi guys,
I need to clean my CPU cooler (Coolermaster Hyper t4) and don't have 99% Isopropyl alcohol. I don't have time to go out and purchase it and am wondering if methylated spirits will work. It is a pretty standard bottle and doesn't contain as many added chemicals like other brands, It has no cent and has no colours, this means it cannot leave a smell and cannot leave stains which can produce residue and moister.
I am still new to PC building (built 1 PC) and am just wondering if methylated spirits will work
I am aware that it is extremely bad to get on a motherboard because it is extremely strong but am just wondering if it will work.

Solution
Depends on the alcohol grade... if close to 100% it should be good enough.... lower grade may or not be as good. As long as it doesn't leave a residue or water it's good enough. Check the label for grade

From http://www.diamondspirit.net/adunk/metho.html
: Methylated spirits ("metho") is a mixture of ethyl alcohol (95%) and methyl alcohol (%5).

From wikipedia:
Denatured alcohol, also called methylated spirits or denatured rectified spirit, is ethanol that has additives to make it poisonous, bad tasting, foul smelling or ...

It is fine in a pinch as it is much better to get the die or IHS and heatsink not being cleaned. Just make sure it has a high Iso % (over 70% at bare minimum and the higher the better). If you do use 70% of any alcohol I would let things dry longer than normal due to the water content and blow on it or use a hair drier just to be on the safe side as water is very bad when it comes to computers in general.

Thank you very much, I ended up getting isopropyl alcohol since it seemed like a big risk. Thanks for the info, I will now know for next time.
