hello guys.. my 3 years old sapphire 7870 XT was running a little hot at 77c on full load and 30c on idle.. now after cleaning the gpu fans with an air duster can (a huge amount of dust have been removed of the fans and the heatsink) but that barely made a difference, temps now on full load is 76c and on idle is 26-28c.

what should i do? do i have to unscrew the gpu fans so i can have better accesses while cleaning it?.. i tried a different version of drivers and now i have crimson 15.12

Those temperatures are perfectly fine. Gpu's are made to be able to run hot. Load of 77c is pretty good and 26c for idle is great as well. I wouldn't worry about it all. Unless you start to see frame rate or glitches while in games, dont worry about it. The temps seem perfect. :)

thank you for your respond.. I'm not worried about those temps, im just wondering why the sudden increase? my gpu Temps used to be 68c max. at full load, and now suddenly its 77c, that made me curious.

Did the driver update and then you noticed the difference in temperatures? It also depends on the environment that you have it in. Did you move the pc at all or have a temperature change in the house? I think that a driver changed makes it work a tad bit harder and it isn't anything to worry about. You can try unscrewing the casing on the card to clean it better but you need to be very careful and wear an anti static band and be gentle. You could try a new thermal compound on it as well assuming it hasn't been changed. That should lower temps a bit.

after updating drivers there is no difference, i tried few versions but nothing, i didn't updated to the latest version though.
weather is very cold now and room temp is normal.. i may try rolling back to an old driver, if that didn't make a difference then i guess my only last option is to apply a new thermal (it hasn't been changed and my gpu is 3 years old) so not sure if that's a long time or not.

I think thermal paste is your best bet. Otherwise, don't stress it :)

thanks for helping, i'll try the thermal and inform you with the results.. one last question please, i removed a huge amount of dust from the heatsink, but the fan's blade still has a stuck dust beneath it, can i clean the blades with alcohol using cotton swab or something?
