I'm cleaning up a few laptops for redistribution to new staff., but the older Toshiba Satellite Pro machines have a textured top and palm rest which collects loads of dirt etc. This makes them look absolutely filthy, probably isn't hygenic and wiping them down with a screen wipe or equivalent does nothing for it.

Does anyone have any effective ways of cleaning something like this? If it wasn't an electrical item I'd use a scourer or scrubbing brush to get between the grooves but obviously dont want water getting inside.

Use a brush that is only slightly moist or just dry. Softish bristles, you don't want the thing scratched but needs to be stiff enough to push the dirt out without bending first. If you are really doing a clean up of the things, it's best done when it's apart so you can clean off the keyboard and the interior fans and cavity.
