Current set-up as follows:

  • Motherboard: MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • GPU: MSI RX5600XT OC
  • PSU Corsair RM850e
  • 32GB Ram
  • OS: Windows 11 64
  • Samsung SSD 1TB

After removing and eventually replacing the CMOS battery on my motherboard, my PC now fails to recognise Windows. When I turn it on, it simply goes straight to BIOS.

The BIOS shows my SSD is connected, and I have re-enabled secure boot and TPM, but every time I restart, it goes straight to BIOS with no recognition of Windows.

Any ideas?

Did you first record your BIOS settings before taking the drastic step of clearing BIOS? One of those settings is the one preventing boot. Likely tied to CSM, Legacy or UEFI. Or, perhaps, boot order.
I did, and they were all the same, hence my confusion.

Although for a “drastic” step it’s often something that gets suggested here.

As it happens it seemed to fix itself by messing about unplugging and then re-plugging the SATA drive in.
