Hi All
I need help clearing /resetting the BIOS on my Samsung NP700Z5 laptop.
I tried disconnecting the battery (even overnight) but the bios remains the same.
BIOS refuses to see flash drives and there is only Ubuntu in the boot order.
Can anyone advise, is there any jumpers I can short out?
Many thanks

You've gotta remove the laptop's battery first, and then remove CMOS battery.

After doing so, wait for about 20 seconds before butting it back into place and seeing if the BIOS is cleared. It should be.

I don't see how resetting BIOS will help in your case, but give it a go.

Thanks for your reply
Pretty sure I have done this but will give it another go.
Just a bit of background on this problem..I was triple booting Win 10 ,Ubuntu and MXLinux, thought it would be interesting to try "MXTools "in MXLinux and try to reconfigure the boot order..on rebooting Grub error! and in the boot priority only Ubuntu ,MXlinux and network..everything else was gone. Plugging in a Flash drive is not recognized. Just hoping resetting the bios will give me a chance to rectify this ..

you can reset BIOS settings to default though the BIOS as well, might as well give that a go.

quick question: how do you know that removing the CMOS didn't reset the BIOS because your problem didn't go away, that doesn't mean that the BIOS wasn't reset, just that the BIOS was reset, but had no effect on your boot priority and the rest of the options appearing on grub

Hi Zinkles
Yes you're right , are you saying the bios is corrupt.Just seeing the boot priority staying the same makes me think nothing has changed and yes setting to default does except the boot priority ..what to do?

Yes I tried Win 10 to get into recovery..not recognised and did not go into recovery. Yes all other entries were missing including SSD DVD drive and any other OS that were there previously

the the bios wouldn't show any boot order if it's on the same drive, rather the grub shows the boot order. the BIOS will only show that one drive and any other CD/DVD and USB devices you've plugged in.

Yes you're right, previously this BIOS boot order would list the OS and any drives that are plugged in, I used to be able to change the boot like that

atleast on mine, its not possible to do so. the BIOS boot order will only list one OS / drive. if you have multiple on the same drive, you need a boot manager like grub or something else to run those OS'es (on my bios, atleast) . I think your OS'es are on separate drives to be able to change like that?
