This is a 3/4 years olf WD Blue 320 GB. I didnt use it for like 2/3 months. Today I tried but there was problem. Its not the primary drive, I meant to say windows is in another hard disk. So, I plugged in the hdd and there was clicking noise for a while. There was spinning noise too. After the windows loaded, there was no sound. I checked in disk management, the hdd was not found. I the entered BIOS. I see its just listed as 0.0 GB. Every time I start pc, it begins with clicking noise for a while and then stopped. Is there anyhope for this hdd ? Is there any way at least to recover the data ?

what can i do ? and swapping the pcb ? can you describe a bit more ? thanks for the response.

the pcb is easily removed with screwdriver or hex driver depending on the board

the pcb controls the drive heads--so if the pcb is wonky swapping it with an identical one can fix it

but must be absolutely identical--and if its not an issue caused by the pcb this wont help

but that size of drive is dirt cheap second hand and its certainly worth trying if you need data recovered

worse thing that can happen is it doesnt work--you just swap pcb back and you have a spare 320gb drive

Really thanks for the info dude. But I live in Bangladesh. I dont have an international credit card. I cant buy from ebay. Apart from pcb change; is there any other options ? jumper setting ,trying on different pc ?

Hi there Swagata,

I am really sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. 🙁
Unfortunately, clicking noises usually point toward a mechanical problem with the HDD. There could be something wrong with the read/write head of the drive. This is further supported by the fact that BIOS recognizes the drive as 0.0 GB capacity.
I guess you can try connecting the drive to another computer with different SATA and power cables. Though, if the issue persist, you will need to get another drive. 🙁
In case the data on the drive is really important, you will need to contact a data recovery company.

You can check WD's Data Recovery Partners out: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=VeuTYW
