As of late, after I boot up, then I click on a desktop program to either
check spam killer or go into another program, nothing happens. If I wait 2 or
3 minutes it suddenly begins. It just started happening this past week,
running home edition xp, sp2.Internet ex.6, outlookexpress. I tried a system
restore and that did not solve it, did a defrag and scan disk, I cannot
figure it out. It is like a long pause and then it finally kicks in.I have
plenty of memory and a new hard drive.

Have you checked your event log to see if any service is timing out?

Click on Start > Run and type "eventvwr.msc"

See if there are any warnings or cautions
