clicking sound inside verbatim external hard drive

Solution
Unfortunately as a Western Digital representative, I can't really recommend any specific products/devices which are not under the WD brand. However you could try a couple of 3rd party diagnostic tools from the provided link in my previous post just to check and double-check if there's something out of the ordinary with the HDD.
Hey there.

Clicking sounds are never a good sign when it comes to HDDs. I'd recommend that you backup your important data immediately, just to be on the safe side. After that you could try the drive with a different USB cable and a different USB port or computer, to see if the same thing happens. You should also download an HDD diagnostic tool to test the drive and see what's the situation with it.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how it goes.

Well then you should proceed with my advice as it's quite possible for the drive to be on its way to fail. Backup your data and test the HDD with its manufacturer's diagnostic tool (or a 3rd party diagnostic tool if the manufacturer doesn't offer one: https://www.lifewire.com/free-hard-drive-testing-programs-2626183), to see if there's anything alarming. You could also post the results here.
