Hi,
I would like to know more about client isolation, what can i do with that ?
Is all the routers can support this function ? (or after flash the firmware ?).

That i would like to do : i use a repeater to access internet, but all the machine connected on wifi by the repeater access to all the name of the computer connected. I would like to prevent this, and that all the computer connected on the repeater don't appear in the network. Only the repeater.

Thanks

Client isolation is suppose to prevent clients connected to the same radio device from seeing each other. It does not prevent a wireless client from seeing a wired client..this is more a guest wireless function. The other case client isolation does not prevent is if say I have 2 AP. The users on each AP would be prevented from seeing each other but they would be able to see users on the alternate AP. This is because the AP appear to each other as wired switches.

When you get repeaters in the mix its hard to say what it will do. Repeaters there are no official rules since very technically the WDS is not a official standard. What the ones I have played with tend to do with this option is they restrict the users directly on the repeater device from seeing each other but you can see any device attached to the main router ether via wireless or wired.

Since this varies so much I would assume other firmware would work differently.

You can of course implement this by using advanced features in third party firmware loads. You would use the firewall features as well as the vlan abilities to keep the traffic seperate, you would still need to use client isolation since that feature is actually done by the radio chip itself not the main router cpu

technicly could i do that : connect the second router to the main router by ssid user&pass, and client of the second router appear for client of the main router as only one device : the second router. also make it in a secure way. i have found that maybe bridged/unbridged mode will make the work of "appear as one", but i guess ap isolation on the second router will only secure the "second" network. maybe unbridged mode will make problem with session on the web if same ip?
thanks you very much for your answer. i will find a router with all feature available with an alternative firmware, but i would like to be sure that this application is possible. basically i can use internet access for the second part connected device with a simple repeater but this make a big open space for hacker and is not the best for the privacy of all users on the second network.
i really didn't get if it's possible with a simple ssid user&pass wifi session to create a tunnel for others, very separate with the main router and his clients (other than the second router). also i'm not sure if i will need to make some configuration on the main router to permit it to work or if i can do all on the second router directly. many thanks for your answer, pretty hard to find information about that !
