I have a nvidia gtx 960.
I recently installed a new copy of Windows 10 because the last one crashed. So to play games i tried to install nvidia display driver and whenever is starts installing blue screen appears with "clock watchdog timeout".

Please help.

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD

that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD
copy that file to documents
upload the copy from documents to a file sharing web site, and share the link here and I will get someone to convert file into a format I can read

What are your FULL PC specs ? Is anything overclocked on your RIG ? Do you have the latest BIOS, chipset drivers, and firmware installed on your PC ? Reset all the BIOS settings to default, by clearing the CMOS settings. So, this error only occurs when your try to install the GPU drivers, and not while playing games or doing other tasks ?

In the meantime, try doing a CLEAN re-install of the GPU drivers, by using this DDU tool. Do it in SAFE MODE.

Apart from that, some things to check..

Update your system drivers.
Run a MEMTEST, to check for any errors in the system RAM.
Run the SFC Command, to check for any damaged/missing system OS files. In the command box you have to type "sfc /scannow" and hit the Enter key to run this command.
Scan your PC for any kind of Malware/Virus as well, despite a fresh OS install.
Also, don't overclock any of your hardware, for the time being. Reset everything to factory defaults.

Ive uninstalled the drivers using ddu and the blue screen only occurs when i open the installer and the driver starts installing.nothing is overclocked but idl for sure.can you tell me how to check? Because a month ago i got a warning at boot about overclocking or something and windows then crashed and it went into repair loop and then i reinstalled windows but could not install nvidia drivers since the .apart from that i did not install any system driver is that a problem? Specs are i7 920 ram 8 gb and gpu msi gtx 960 2g.

That's not a problem, but to isolate and troubleshoot this issue, make sure your system is updated, including the latest BIOS version, and other system drivers. Like I said before, something might be unstable on your system, mostly probably some of hardware components, and since you have already got the warning about something being overclocked, then the issue might be there.

You haven't mentioned full PC specs. What about Motherboard, and PSU ? Does your mobo support integrated onboard graphics, iGPU, so that you can try booting your system, without using the GPU/GTX 960 ?

Kindly reset all the BIOS/CMOS settings to default.

No my motherboard doesn't support iGPU it has no onboard port to output.its model is msi x58 pro.the blue screen is now not only occuring at display driver installation it also occured now when i tried to install cpu-z to identify the motherboard. How Do i check of gpu is overclocked?because if i use gpu-z it does not recognize gpu because i don't have the driver installed.

Hi, I ran the dump file through the debugger and got the following information: https://pste.eu/p/YMU3.html

File information:050719-44718-01.dmp (May 7 2019 - 07:24:08)
Bugcheck:CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101)
Probably caused by:Unknown_Image (Process: System)
Uptime:0 Day(s), 0 Hour(s), 00 Min(s), and 50 Sec(s)

Possible Motherboard page: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X58_proe
There is a BIOS update available for your system (version 8.F). You are using version 8.6. Wait for additional information before deciding to update or not. Important: Verify that I have linked to the correct motherboard. Updating your BIOS can be risky. Never try it when you might lose power (lightning storms, recent power outages, etc).

This information can be used by others to help you. I can't help you with this. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

Okay.Thanks

Do you wifi or lan?

This is too old for win 10
Jun 10 2011 Rt64win7.sys Realtek 64 bit Windows 7 driver
its the win 7 LAN driver, if you use it still you may need to find a newer one
every other driver on PC is from this year.

notices its fixed... driver update might help anyway, almost everything running on PC is from Avast
