Hello everyone, I have a lenovo B560 laptop( I don't know the history of the laptop it arrived at my hands without OS) and after having formatted it with win 7 Pro SP1 it ran very slowly.. I am thinking that was caused by a failing drive (WD 500G I think) so as we speak I have installed Win7 on a USB drive and it runs smoothly. Should I conclude slugish performance was the failing internal drive or give it a shot to clone the external USB drive to the internal and see how it goes?

Hey TomS45. You could always give it a shot, but it would best if you can try the drive with another computer to see if the same thing happens again, because the culprit might be a faulty SATA connection as well. I'd also recommend that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic) to test the drive and see if there are any issues with it. Here's a link where you can download it: Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

Hope that helps.

Thanks for replying boogieman! Ok I ran Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and after starting it displays SMART Status: PASS. I tried to perform a quick test on the drive and it says :

Quick Test on drive 1 did not complete! Status cod=07(Failed read test element),Failure Checkpoint=102 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 1!

So quick test failed! I also moved the drive to another laptop where I tried to install Win7 but it also didn't seem to proceed with the installation. It was stuck on Copying windows files.
Are all these enough to diagnose a failing disk?
Thanks
