Hello
I have a brand new Asus ROG GL752
Upgraded memory to 16G
1HDD To
1SSD 128 with windows 10

I got a 256G M.2 SSD to upgrade

So I would help to understand how to do this as I have only one slot
My main question is where do I clone the 1rst ssd (could I do it on a partition of my HDD) I have Paragon but can use something else
and then how do I boot and where since my new ssd is empty

If I could get a step by step that would be great I am very new to m2 SSD
My main question is booting options and retransfering the clone to the new SSD

My computer is new so NOTHING is installed but windows I would like to do this before I install any of my large 3d Programs

Many thanks in advance

Solution
Hey there, Jennifer.

Congrats on the new laptop. :)

You have 2 (maybe 3) options:
1. Get an M.2 to USB adapter in order to connect the new SSD externally and clone your stock SSD.
2. First clone your stock SSD over to the HDD, then connect the new SSD instead of the stock one and clone the HDD over to the new SSD.
(3. Put both SSDs in a computer with 2 available M.2 slots and do the cloning process)

Basically that's it. During all that process in order to be able to boot to Windows from the proper drive, you should go to your BIOS/UEFI and open the boot priority menu, then set the drive you want to boot from as the first booting option.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Hi Boogieman
Thanks!
now if I can try to figure out what a m.2 to usb adapter looks like on amazon....:)
something like this?
http://www.miniinthebox.com/fr/usb-3-0-vers-sata-2-5-disque-dur-pour-m-2-ngff-pci-e-2-voies-ssd-pour-e431-e531-x240-y410p-y510_p4019730.html?prm=2.10.11.0

so If I go with solution N1..
1 Plug in adapter with new SSD and clone the internal SSD to the new one
2 put the new ssd inplace of the old one
3 should not have to change the booting order right?
and tada it should work.. kidda right?
am I getting this right?

thats a lot of rights so I dont do wrong...:)

I don't think so. This looks like a standard SATA to USB adapter. I know the title says something about M.2 and PCIe (sorry I'm not good with French), but in the specs, under ports it says: "SATA/SAS/IDE, USB 3.0".

On the other hand on the PCB it looks like on one of the other side there's a M.2 slot. What puzzles me is that it's not mentioned in the specs with the other ports.

Try looking for "M.2 SATA to USB enclosure" in Google (or something along that lines). Sorry for not being able to help more with that, but as an official WD rep, I can't really recommend any specific products or devices, which are not under the WD brand.

And yes. If you get the adapter/enclosure - connect the new drive externally via your USB port/s (don't change boot order). Use the software you'd like for the cloning process and once it's completed, disconnect the old SSD and connect the new one in its place, then try booting off of the new SSD.

By the way, you should remove the S/N from the picture or delete it, for security reasons. :)

okay will look for that and are these steps correct..

so If I go with solution N1..

Yes, it should be able to boot from the clone once you connect it internally, but if an issue arises, just check the boot order, to see if it's the first booting option. If you don't know how to get to the boot priority menu, you should be able to find that out from the laptop's user manual. :)
