Question CLONE Windows 10 SSD to a Larger SSD and then extend partition?

I want to clone a 250GB SSD to a 500GB SSD.
Crucial MX500 250GB 2.5” SSD <-This the Windows 10 Boot drive.
Model# CT250MX500SSD1(Z

The larger and faster drive which is the following.

Samsung 860 EVO 500GB 2.5” SSD
Model# (MZ-76E500B/AM)

1st Question is can this be done?

2nd Question is, once cloned and it boots to Windows 10 and all is well, can I use Disk Management to 'extend the partition' so I have full access to the now nearly 250GB larger drive?

1 > Yes. There is many clone tool out there, Personally I prefer Clonezilla.

2 > Not known by me if you can resize the OS partition itself.

A workaround for this (your backup is the old drive) is to use sn off-line tool to resize the partition. I would recommend Gparted for that purpose,

I have done this on multiple occasions for HDDs and see no logical reason why the same principle would not apply when it's SSDs instead.

Yes, extending the partition is easy. I've only used EaseUS to clone, but I suspect they are all similar. In EaseUS, you simply drag the image of the target disk out to the size you want the partition.

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:

Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe all partitions on it.
This will probably require the commandline diskpart function, and the clean command.
