Helping my aunt, who had an old computer (2003). giving her my old computer a older quad core dell. i was able to clone the old IDE hd to a SATA drive. The SATA drive will boot in her old computer but NOT in the quad core Dell. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Been working on it for 6hr now!! thanks

Solution

A two pronged approach:

1. A new system with a current OS and a current version of whatever software she uses.
New clients go on this.

2. Install and run an instance of XP (and the old software and database) in a VM guest in that new Win 10 system.

Unfortunately, my aunt in a CPA and has all of her client files on the old system. A simple move I understand, BUT they were done on an old accounting program FROM THE 80'S. there is no way to port them over to a new version of window. I was hoping to do an update to at least Vista or Win 8. Any other suggestions?
