cloned SSD to new laptop

i cloned my hard drive with windows 7 to an SSD, if i were to buy a new laptop with windows 8 on it, could i replace that new laptops hard drive with my SSD?

The laptop would have to have similar specs as the old one, when you cloned the drive, it cloned all the drivers and settings of the old system. So it might be problematic if the hardware has changed significantly.
