Hi folks....

I have standardized on the consumer and server grade Samsung solid state hard drives. On the PC side, I enjoy the free Samsung cloning software as well as the free Samsung Magic software that always lets me know when I need a firmware update for the drive, and it will also over prevision the drive for me, plus a few other things.

Now I need to clone a mechanical hard drive in a Mac laptop running either Snow Leopard or one or two versions newer OS. I can make my way around a Mac OS (sort of) , but do not know how to clone a Mac hard drive.

Can I do this with just the OS? And if so, how? Perhaps someone knows of a web link you can post that will show me how to do this?

Also, if you know of some free or inexpensive software I can buy or down load, that would also be helpful.

I am waiting for the user to send me to exact OS version he is running.

Any advice, links or advice much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Solution
For Macrium:
From a Windows PC, you download the Macrium client.
https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
Functionality there lets you create a Rescue USB or DVD.

Boot from that, and clone between any two drives.

I do not have any Mac systems, so I can't personally verify this works. But it should, and it is free to try. All you need is a blank USB stick.

Hello USAFRet...

Thank you for the fast response.

I do not understand enough computer stuff to understand your answers. I googled "Macrium Reflect RescueUSB ", but the responses that came back were for windows and Linux. Is the idea of "Macrium Reflect RescueUSB " that you make a backup copy of the OS boot drive, then install the SS drive in the Mac and then boot to the USB drive and write to the new SS drive from the USB drive? What is the key command on a Mac to boot to a flash drive? Do I first install Macrium Reflect RescueUSB software on the Mac, then launch it to create a backup to a flash drive?

This is the link I kept getting and it always says it is for "Windows":

https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

Perhaps you know of a different link?

I also googled CloneZilla and found this:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/clonezilla/files/

But I was unable to make out which file to download for a Mac. Can you toss me a few more bones please? I am not quite sure I understand enough. If my links are not correct, perhaps you can post the two links for me to look at? Then I can probably find an online manual or help area where I can figure this all out without pestering everyone here.

Thank you again for helping me.
