Hello,

My current hard drive is about to die, bad sectors spread like wildfire with every time I reboot the laptop... (go seagate!)

I want to spare myself all the time reinstalling my software and updates by cloning my current drive to a new one. This is a fairly fresh install already, around 1 month, and I don't want to go through all the process again.

First of all, will it work if I clone it while the new drive is connected via USB?
I know you can't install an OS to a USB drive.
And what program should I use to do that?

Solution
You can use an external USB enclosure to clone your existing HDD to another HDD. I used CloneZilla's rescue clone the other day to clone a failing HDD filled with bad sectors via USB enclosure, and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for that, unfortunately the drive died completely while I was trying to clone it, so I had to install everything all over again.
