I have a 2TB with about 1.7TB of it full, i want to convert my OS to my new 500GB SSD but when i use Minitool partition tool, it says the drive is tooi small, and i am selecting the option for just the OS to be cloned?

Solution
So, assuming the system boots properly from the SSD by itself....delete all the partitions on the old HDD.

Right click each partition, DELETE.
Eventually you have one large blank space.
Format, and give it a drive letter.
Use as desired.

so the 2tb hdd now says 1.35tb out of 1.81tb free, Do i have have to get this to 1.55 free or does the hidden 0.2TB count as part of it?

Going into a 500GB SSD, the total consumed space (C partition) needs to be below 400GB. Maybe 450.
Most cloning tools will throw an error, or not even start the process.

But if you're at that level, then the SSD is effectively "full", after the clone operation.

Once you get sufficient size on your current C...these steps exactly.

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the 450MB Recovery Partition, here:

1. At the end of the cloning process, did you physically disconnect the old drive, and then boot up from the new drive by itself?

2. What specific software did you use?

3. Please post a screencap of your Disk Management window.

4. The old drive is supposed to have the 'same folders'. That's what you did with the clone operation.
Cloning does not automagically delete off the old drive, nor should it.
It is now up to you to delete all partitions on that old drive.
But only after we've verified this actually works from the new drive by itself.

I did disconnect the old drive, booted it, got on, shut the pc down, reconnected HDD, i used Minitool Partition Wizard.

1. I meant Disk Management, not Windows Explorer.

2. As long as it actually runs from the SSD on its own, you're fine.
You need to delete ALL the partitions on the old HDD.
Go into Disk Management to do this.

3. OS and applications on the SSD, other things on the old drive. No problem.
