Hi

My PC specs:
I7 10700k
Rtx 3080 fe
16gb ram
Msi z490 gaming carbon WiFi motherboard

I built the PC half a year ago and was using it by connecting my monitor, which surprisingly only has dp port and no hdmi even the box it came in with and sold on ebay with was Asus rog swift pg278q.

I been playing games and everything was good. I started mining and was told to connect monitor to PC to get some extra performance for mining.

I connect monitor to display port on motherboard back io port and other end to monitor.

No signal

Change setting in bios to enable igpu and multi monitor mode. Installed driver for Intel graphics card igpu Intel uhd 630. Restart and still no signal from display port from motherboard.

I removed graphics card completely, reset cmos and tried and still no signal.

Tried removing power source of pc from mains and remove power off and remove power source from monitor to mains waited 20 mins connected everything, turned monitor on and then turned pc on and no signal.

I have no idea what to try next.

Please help.

Thanks

Well then, it should work. The only reason it does not work at this point that I can see is failed motherboard. It could be limited to just DP port or it could be all ports. Monitor works, cable works, iGPU (as part of CPU) seems to be working (you would have problem with installing drivers otherwise).
Unless you forgot to enable iGPU in BIOS after the last CMOS reset perhaps ...
Extra information.

Just tried connecting hdmi cable to TV another display while dp connected to monitor and monitor is flashing the display correctly and then turning off and repeating and TV is displaying correctly from hdmi.

Make sure the monitor is set to 60Hz refresh rate and either FHD or 2K resolution. Higher refresh or lower resolutions might not work well with iGPU.

I have a Asus rog swift pg278q 1440p 144hz monitor.

How do I set refresh rate of monitor to 60Hz and 2k or FHD.

According to motherboard manufacturer about the display port.
  • 1x DisplayPort, supports a maximum resolution of 4096x2304 @60Hz

So I figured out how to change monitor settings through nvidia control panel and set it to 1920 x 1080 and 60hz and after applying settings and then connecting the monitor to the mobo dp port instead of the gpu and it was showing no signal still and blank screen.

It won't work that way. You made changes to your GPU output, while you have to make them to integrated graphics. Unfortunately since your monitor has only one input port you will need second monitor to do that.
Of course there is also possibility that your DP port on motherboard is just faulty.

I have a DP splitter switch so 2 dp input to 1 dp output. Each input connected to gpu and mobo and I want to switch between 2 inputs.

I will try change integrated graphics monitor refresh rate and resolution through the Intel graphics command centre or something like that or through the display adaptor.

Mobo was bought new.

So I changed the resolution and refresh rate from display properties via right click, display adaptors and list all modes and choose 1920 x 1080 60Hz.

But it still showed no display

The only option they have in bios is enabling igpu multi monitor mode.

Dp port does work but only when a hdmi port is connected to another monitor and even then it flashes display of pc on and off.

Is there any way to test dp port.

Is it possible the dp port on the motherboard is only an input port and not output.

Nope. Input ports are always marked as such in mobo description, and your board does not have it. Besides, input ports appear only on very few selected boards targeted towards content creators, and your board is just a normal gaming board.

All you did so far was testing if it works. More precise tests would require special equipment which is not available to most people.
Dp port does work (...) and even then it flashes display of pc on and off.
I would not call that working, would you?

I don't think you can do much more. You know monitor works. DP cable also works (you were using it with 3080 right?). All the settings in BIOS were tested. You can install newest iGPU drivers if you haven't tried that yet, and that's about all that can be done here.

Yes 3080

Yes downloaded bios

Therefore just stick with graphics card and forget using mobo dp.

One more thing, my mobo has a USB C port could I use that and use a USB c to dp converter to use igpu

OK, I was thinking of maybe flashing bios but I don't see that doing anything.

So will stick to using gpu dp port.

Thanks for the help and I can look back at this if anything similar like this happens.
