I have an XFX Radeon HD 6850 that recently started making some bad noises. It sounded like the fan was dying. I took the card out and cleaned it out with some compressed air. Didn't seem to help. I let it run for a bit while it was making noise and played with the manual fan control and watched the temps. After a while, the noise slowly went away and the fan still seems to be cooling the card with no issue. Still can game for hours with no abnormal rise in temperature.

Maybe it's my imagination but I still hear a faint noise coming from the fan and don't really trust it for the long haul. Is there a way to get an OE replacement fan and swap it myself? I know there are aftermarket GPU fans out there, but they seem pretty expensive. If I'm spending $50+ on a fan, I might as well spend 175 and upgrade my card.

Any straight stock replacement fans I can swap in easily? I've never messed with a GPU fan.

PS. I know I could probably get this covered under XFX's lifetime warranty, but my motherboard doesn't have any onboard graphics and I really don't want to be without my desktop if I can help it.

Surprisingly, I opened a ticket with XFX support and they said it would be no problem to send me a replacement fan to swap out on my own. They responded almost instantly even after business hours (they must have 24/7 support even online.) I am impressed as I assumed their only response would be that I had to send the card to them to fix. Big props to them.
